Primates present great interest for animal lovers and specialists. The studies on them have shed light on the evolution of the human race and on the biologic relationship between apes and humans. The suborder Anthropoidea includes as many as 145 primate species, of which 90% are monkeys. There are two infraorders of the Anthropoidea suborder: the Platyrrhini and the Catarrhini. The Platyrrhini, known as New World primates, have flat noses with outwardly projected nostrils, and 2.1.3.2 or 2.1.3.3 dental formula. Many of them have strong prehensile tails. The Catarrhini have downward directed nostrils and 2.1.2.3 dental formula. They are referred to as Old World species and can be found in Asia and Africa.

These animals have a light to medium brown body and darker limbs with the hands and feet, which are usually black in color. The tail is sometimes longer than the body. In the wild, these species rarely come down to the jungle floor. They live in evergreen rainforests, semi deciduous and mangrove forests, almost never coming to the ground. In these forests they live mostly in the upper canopy, preferring undisturbed high forest. They may be found in other forest types if habitat is limited, hunting pressure light and other primate competitors are not present. They are more flexible than their South American primate cousins in habitat adaptation. A spider monkey picture can be requested from a conservation farm that will usually keep picture documentation.
