The Primates are a varied group that includes around 233 species distributed among 13 families. They can be found in arboreal tropical habitats of Africa, Asia, Latin and South America. They are distinguished by certain primitive characteristics of the skull, teeth and limbs and size. They are divided into two great groups, the Stepsirhini and the Haplorhini. Evolutionally, Haplorhini are more advanced and are subdivided into two infraorders, the Platyrrhini and Catarrhini. Platyrrhini (new world species) have flat noses with outwardly directed nostrils, and prehensile or semi-prehensile tails. Catarrhini feature downwardly projected nasal openings, and some of them lead semi-terrestrial lfe.

These animals have a short brightly colored fur. It is thick and soft in texture. The species has little to no hair on the area around the lips and nostrils. Though there is a slight color variation within the species, the most common color pattern is that with white around ears, eyes, throat, and some areas on the neck. These little creatures are an attractive sight of Costa Rica and other tourist places. Their orange fur and funny faces are a great amusement for those who happen to see them.
