These animals are often described as one of the most peaceful primates. These little creatures are an attractive sight of Costa Rica and other tourist places. Their orange fur and funny faces are a great amusement for those who happen to see them. These animals are not monogamous, and a dominant male keeps a sort of ‘harem’ consisting of several females. Gestation lasts 139 days. Infants hold on to the mothers abdomen for about 4 months, and later on the back. Later, the mother carries her young on her back or they hold on to her tail. These anmals mature by age of 10 months.

These animals have a short brightly colored fur. It is thick and soft in texture. The species has little to no hair on the area around the lips and nostrils. The skin in these areas is black. There is a slight color variation within the species, the most common color pattern is black with white around ears, eyes, throat, and some areas on the neck. These are social animals, and they move in groups containing 15-25 individuals. More often than not, groups are subdivided into separate units containing 3-8 animals. They inhabit areas where food is readily available and move to other places once they run out of food in this particular area. Like all new world primates, they are arboreal and scatter in trees in case of a danger.
